On May 7th, 2023, the Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington(CAAGW)’s Thousand-Person Picnic and BBQ Gathering at Black Hill Park came to a successful close. Classmate love lasts a lifetime, and we will always be together despite the passing of time!
1993年起，每年初夏都于马里兰州黑山公园举办的大型野餐文体聚会活动黑山“千人聚”作为大专联的特色品牌活动已经持续30年，是大华府地区各校友乡友增进情谊，促进联络，相互交流，弘扬中华传统文化的重要平台。 每年，大专联70多个校友会亦藉此平台举办自己的特色活动，凝聚校友与母校的感情；每年，都有些寻不到母校校友会的人，通过这样的聚会找到了“娘家”；每年，这个平台还汇聚了四面八方各行各业的人士，会见老朋友，结识新朋友，寻找商机，拓展服务。因疫情原因，黑山“千人聚”停办两年，去年成功复办，今年满血回归。5月7日盛大开幕！
Since 1993, the annual large-scale picnic and sports gathering event, “Black Hill Thousand People Gathering,” held in Black Hill Park, Maryland, has been a signature brand event of CAAGW for 30 years. It is an important platform for alumni and fellow townsmen in the Greater Washington, D.C. area to enhance their friendship, promote contacts, exchange ideas, and promote traditional Chinese culture. Every year, more than 70 alumni associations of CAAGW also use this platform to hold their own characteristic activities to consolidate the feelings between alumni and their alma maters. Every year, some people who cannot find their alma mater’s alumni association find their “parental home” through such gatherings. Every year, this platform also brings together people from all walks of life and professions, where they meet old friends, make new ones, find business opportunities, and expand services. Due to the pandemic, the Black Hill Thousand People Gathering was suspended for two years, successfully resuming last year and returning in full force this year with a grand opening on May 7th!
当天，老天眷顾似地停止了头天的小雨，把初夏的太阳赶出来普照大地，天空青蓝，草木欣然，吹面不寒杨柳风，正是一年好时节！
一大早，今年活动的大专联总指挥、候任会长李传明已经开始坐镇C亭，部署指挥各项事宜； 副总指挥王建华和缪传奇、副会长孙焰、寿马铁、李国彦等等也都按事先分工，拉横幅，铺桌布，搬奖品，运食材，有条不紊；各校友会也按提前分配好的方案，在A，B，C,I，J五个亭子开始悬挂各自的校旗，一时间，各个亭子校旗猎猎，仿佛在召唤自己的学子们！
陆陆续续，四面八方，人流向黑山聚集，奔着自己学校的方向而去。大人的问好，孩子的喧闹，四脚朋友也来凑热闹，整个黑山公园人潮涌动，笑声涛涛。
On that day, the heavens seemed to favor the event and stopped the light rain from the previous day. The early summer sun shone on the earth, and the sky was blue, the plants were flourishing, and the breeze was warm with the scent of willow trees, truly a good time of the year!
Early in the morning, this year’s CAAGW event commander and the upcoming president, Li Chuanming, had already started his command at Pavilion C, deploying and directing various matters. The deputy commander, Wang Jianhua, and Miao Chuanqi, the vice presidents Sun Yan, Shou Matie, Li Guoyan, etc., had all been divided into their designated roles beforehand, hanging banners, laying tablecloths, moving prizes, transporting ingredients, and everything was carried out in an orderly manner. Each alumni association also hung their respective school flags at Pavilions A, B, C, I, and J according to the pre-allocated plan. For a moment, the school flags fluttered in each pavilion, as if calling for their own students!
Gradually, people from all directions gathered at Black Hill Park, heading towards their respective school directions. Greetings from adults, children’s chatter, and even four-legged friends came to join in the fun, making the entire Black Hill Park crowded with waves of laughter.
精心筹备的丰盛食品、烧烤用具摆放出来，炊烟袅袅升起，烤香飘飘，校友们争先恐后，拿出绝活，烤制出的牛肉，牛排，鸡腿，鸡翅，排骨，肉肠，羊肉串、各种蔬菜，无不让人食欲大动，舌尖狂舞；还有的校友带来了香喷喷的蛋挞，老家茶叶蛋，麻辣鲜香的红油黄瓜木耳，夫妻肺片，凉拌腐竹，卤水土鸡，风味凉面，凉皮，香椿拌豆腐等等等等，与大家分享，独乐乐不如众乐乐。
在集体活动之前是各亭自由活动时间，也是属于各个校友会的特色时间。除了烧烤欢聚之外，各个校友会都有自己的特色美食和活动。
今年是武汉大学130周年校庆，位于C亭的武汉大学校友会响应校友总会号召，组织了共迎百卅校庆，“同传一面旗”的活动。武大校友们举着校旗，喊着“自强弘毅求是拓新”的校训，奔跑在天地山水间，抒发对母校的热爱和祝福；一幅写着“祝福武汉大学130周年华诞”的横幅铺在地上，就是最好的贺卡，两个精美的大蛋糕用英文写着祝福，这是华盛顿校友会特别定制的，所有在场的人都分享了武大百卅生日的喜庆和欢乐。
Elaborately prepared delicious food and barbecue equipment were arranged, and the smoke rose from the grill. The alumni competed with each other to show off their cooking skills, grilling beef, steak, chicken legs, chicken wings, pork ribs, sausages, lamb skewers, various vegetables, which all made people’s appetite soar and their taste buds dance. Some alumni also brought fragrant egg tarts, hometown tea eggs, spicy and delicious red oil cucumber with wood ear fungus, husband and wife lung slices, cold dressed bean curd sticks, braised water chicken, flavored cold noodles, liangpi, stir-fried tofu with Chinese toon, and so on, to share with everyone, because happiness shared is happiness doubled.
Before the collective activity, there was free time for each pavilion to do their own activities, which was also the characteristic time of each alumni association. In addition to the barbecue gathering, each alumni association has their own unique cuisine and activities.
This year is the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University. The Wuhan University Alumni Association in Pavilion C responded to the call of the Alumni Association and organized the “Celebrating the 130th Anniversary of Wuhan University Together and Passing on a Banner” activity. Wuhan University alumni held the school flag, shouting the school motto of “Self-improvement, Perseverance, Seeking Truth, and Pioneering New Trails” as they ran through the mountains and rivers, expressing their love and blessings for their alma mater. A banner that read “Blessings on the 130th anniversary of Wuhan University” was laid on the ground, which was the best greeting card. Two exquisite cakes with the English message of congratulations were specially customized by the Washington Alumni Association, and everyone present shared the joy and happiness of Wuhan University’s 130th birthday.
无独有偶。同在C亭的华中师范大学也迎来了120周年校庆，华师校友会也为母校精心组织了庆生活动。气球、蛋糕、手工制作的贺卡，满满的心意，满满的祝福！隔壁A亭的浙江大学校友会则欢欢庆庆热热闹闹的庆祝浙江大学成立126周年！浙江大学校友会将于今年筹办大型庆祝浙江大学成立126周年庆典。
下午1：00整，主亭C 亭，红红火火的腰鼓声中，大专联腰鼓队首先带来了一曲热热热闹闹的开场腰鼓。紧接着快板书传承人张承瑄给大家说了一段精彩的快板“酒”。 诙谐幽默的表演形式引来大家阵阵掌声。随后天涯乐队用美妙的萨克斯、键盘、贝斯演奏了一曲曲耳熟能详的优美“乡恋”， 引得在场观众纷纷跟唱起来。
Coincidences do happen. Also at Pavilion C, Central China Normal University celebrated its 120th anniversary, and the alumni association organized a celebration for their alma mater. Balloons, cakes, handmade greeting cards, overflowing with heartfelt wishes and blessings! Next door at Pavilion A, the Zhejiang University Alumni Association was also celebrating the 126th anniversary of the establishment of Zhejiang University with great excitement and joy! The Zhejiang University Alumni Association will be organizing a large-scale celebration for the 126th anniversary this year.
At exactly 1:00 PM, in the bustling and lively atmosphere of Pavilion C, the CAAGW Waist Drum Team first performed a lively opening waist drum performance. Then, Zhang Chengxuan, the inheritor of the fast-paced book (kuai ban), delivered a wonderful performance of the humorous and witty fast-paced book “Wine”. The audience applauded repeatedly in response to the humorous performance. Afterwards, the Tianya Band played familiar and beautiful songs with their wonderful saxophone, keyboard and bass, singing “Nostalgia” which the audience sang along to.

Thank you to all the staff of CAAGW! The Black Hill Park picnic and barbecue gathering is a traditional event of CAAGW, an important platform for mutual communication, friendship, and promotion of Chinese traditional culture among alumni associations in the Greater Washington area and between alumni. This year is very special. It is the 30th anniversary of CAAGW and also the 30th anniversary of our Black Hill Park picnic and barbecue gathering. Today’s event is also one of the commemorative activities celebrating the 30th anniversary of CAAGW’s establishment. The Counsellor and Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in the United States, Zhu Di and Wang Chong, as well as other representatives from the embassy attended the Thousand-Person Picnic and BBQ Gathering at College Alumni United Association of Heishan Park on May 7th. Accompanied by the Commander-in-Chief Li Chuanming, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Miao Chuanqi, Wang Jianhua, Advisor President Li Min, and several other Vice Presidents, Zhu Di and Wang Chong visited several nearby pavilions, met with the new president of the alumni association, warmly conversed with the alumni, and took photos with them.
Zhu Di congratulated the College Alumni United Association of Heishan Park for having so many alumni and friends attend the picnic and BBQ gathering, which reflects the deep friendship between various alumni associations and alumni. Zhu Di pointed out that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the CAAGW, and today’s Thousand-Person Picnic and BBQ Gathering at Heishan Park kicked off the series of activities celebrating the association’s 30th anniversary. Zhu Di said that since its establishment 30 years ago, the CAAGW has actively united and served our alumni, promoted communication among alumni, actively integrated into the mainstream, promoted Chinese culture, and promoted Sino-US friendship. This year’s gathering received strong support and assistance from numerous businesses in the DC area. Representatives from 14 sponsor companies from different industries appeared together and introduced their respective service areas, while praising the broad business opportunities contained within the platform provided by CAAGW. Next, Professor Chen Tao, the supervisor of the CYOC volunteer award, introduced the graduating high school volunteers and new leaders of the CYOC. Six Washington DC youth volunteers who have been serving CYOC for four years and will graduate from high school this year were presented with commemorative items specially made by DZL with their names and the “Washington DC Youth” and “CAAGW” logos. On behalf of all the CYOC youth volunteers, the newly appointed CYOC president, George Xie, thanked DZL for its strong support, as well as the parents of all youth volunteers and friends, and looked forward to CYOC growing stronger and more youth volunteers joining CYOC. Thanks to all CYOC youth volunteers for their busy work, hard work and dedication at all CAAGW events! You are the pride of the Washington DC Chinese community’s younger generation!
重头戏拔河比赛闪亮登场了！
5个亭子+CYOC共六只队伍，每只队伍12男3女，循环赛。关键是以亭子为单位，可以打破校际界限，促进各校交流。
第一轮C亭，CYOC，J亭胜出。第二轮循环赛，先由C对J亭进行比赛，结果C亭胜；再由C亭对决CYOC，结果CYOC 力克C亭。接下来J亭与CYOC进行对决，结果J亭胜CYOC队。赛事进入胶着，争夺，悬念越来越来浓烈了，……根据既定规则，需抽签来决定排名。最终经过合议，三队同意放弃排名，并列冠军，相约明年再战。
特别值得一提的是，正式比赛结束后增加了一场少年场。在场的少年男女们纷纷加入，你看这女孩使出吃奶的劲儿，忍俊不住的同时也为她点赞喝彩。参与，集体，荣誉，大专联，中华文化，一颗颗种子就在这样的拔河游戏中润物细无声地播下了……
The highlight of the event, the tug-of-war competition, shone brightly on the stage! There were a total of six teams, five from different Chinese pavilions and one from CYOC, with 12 male and 3 female members per team, competing in a round-robin format. The key point was that the teams were organized by pavilions, which broke down the inter-school barriers and promoted communication among them.
In the first round, the teams from C Pavilion, CYOC, and J Pavilion emerged victorious. In the second round, C Pavilion won against J Pavilion, and then CYOC defeated C Pavilion. Next, J Pavilion won against CYOC in a tough match. The competition became more intense and suspenseful as it progressed, with the outcome requiring a random draw to determine the ranking. Finally, after deliberation, the three teams agreed to give up their ranking and share the championship, pledging to compete again next year.
It is worth mentioning that after the official competition ended, there was an additional round for the young participants. The young boys and girls in attendance enthusiastically joined in, with some demonstrating remarkable strength. Everyone cheered them on and applauded their efforts. Participation, teamwork, honor, DC Chinese Festival, Chinese culture, and the seeds of friendship were all sown quietly through this tug-of-war game…
青年是未来，是希望。在大专联成立30周年之际，青年部应运而生。
大专联青年部旨在促进青年朋友们的沟通交流，增进彼此之间的了解友谊，同时也让老校友们有个抓手来帮助年轻校友们。
精美的茶点和饮料，亲切友善的前辈，一见如故的同侪，面对面的职业及生活分享，更好地适应社会的发展方向，青年部组织的活动吸引了很多青年人参加，让大家在工作和学习之余，放松心情，放飞自我，充分体验年轻人的活力和创造力。
成立仪式上，大专联候任会长李传明先做了简短的成立青年部的介绍，青年部部长李国彦向大华府的各位青年才俊发出邀请，真诚欢迎年轻人加入到我们大专联青年部，参加青年部组织的活动。为了丰富青年的业余生活，我们会组织适合我们青年人的活动，比如hiking、野餐、烧烤、KTV唱歌、舞会、各类体育活动（网球、羽毛球、篮球、排球，高尔夫球、乒乓球等）、适合青年人需要的讲座（专业的、生活的、个人家庭的等）。欢迎大家一起参与进来，共同努力，让生活更容易、更好。现在我们青年部先从我们大华府地区做起，最终是要走出去，扩大到全美各州甚至全球，形成青年联络网络，为青年提供服务的同时，还可以服务当地社区，协助青年人正向顺利发展。
Youth is the future and the hope. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the association, the youth department has emerged.
The youth department of the association aims to promote communication and exchange among young friends, enhance mutual understanding and friendship, and provide a platform for alumni to help young alumni.
With exquisite refreshments and beverages, friendly senior alumni, peers who hit it off at first sight, face-to-face career and life sharing, the events organized by the youth department have attracted many young people to participate. It allows everyone to relax and unleash their creativity, and fully experience the vitality and creativity of young people while working and studying.
At the founding ceremony, the incoming president of the association, Li Chuanming, gave a brief introduction to the establishment of the youth department. The youth department minister, Li Guoyan, invited all young talents in the Greater Washington area to join our youth department and participate in our youth department’s activities. In order to enrich the leisure life of young people, we will organize activities suitable for young people, such as hiking, picnics, barbecues, KTV singing, dances, various sports activities (tennis, badminton, basketball, volleyball, golf, table tennis, etc.), and lectures suitable for young people’s needs (professional, personal and family life, etc.). We welcome everyone to join us, work together, and make life easier and better. Starting from the Greater Washington area, our youth department will expand to all states in the United States and even globally, forming a youth network to provide services to young people while also serving local communities and assisting young people in smooth and positive development.
贺月部长也提到：青年部将会为青年人创造包括生活、学习、就业等各方面的更多机会，帮助青年朋友改善在美国学习就业生活上的基本条件。青年部副部长陈官明发言说，她会致力于大力发展青年朋友的就业机会和平台，定期开展一些专业讲座，就业面试培训等等，从这些方面着手帮助青年朋友的日常生活。 到场的青年朋友也纷纷表示很开心大专联青年部的诞生，很期待今后多参与青年部的活动。
五月的黑山公园，绿树成荫，芳草青青，碧波荡漾，花团锦簇，适宜校友朋友们聚会运动，跑步、登山、骑自行车、沙滩排球，多处儿童游乐场更是为孩子们提供了野外活动的广阔场地；中国农业大学校友会张永斌会长和校友一起带了四条船在波光荡漾的湖水中尽情的荡起了双桨。
数千校友，各方嘉宾，华府名流，社区精英，聚集在青山绿水间纵情交谈，欢乐游玩。
愿岁月不老，愿友谊长存，愿初心如故，愿生活如歌如花如春如夏永远美好！

Minister He Yue also mentioned that the Youth Department will create more opportunities for young people in various aspects such as life, study, and employment, and help young friends improve their basic conditions for studying, working, and living in the United States. Vice Minister Chen Guanming stated in his speech that she will devote herself to developing employment opportunities and platforms for young friends, and regularly organize professional lectures, job interview training, and other activities to help young friends in their daily lives. Young friends present at the event also expressed their happiness for the establishment of the Youth Department of the College Alumni Association, and look forward to participating in more activities in the future.
In May, Black Hill Park is lush with green trees, fragrant grass, rippling waves, and colorful flowers, providing a perfect setting for alumni and friends to gather and engage in sports such as running, mountain climbing, cycling, and beach volleyball. Multiple children’s playgrounds provide vast outdoor space for children to play. Zhang Yongbin, President of the China Agricultural University Alumni Association, and alumni took four boats to paddle in the sparkling lake.
Thousands of alumni, guests, elites from the Washington D.C. community, and celebrities gathered amidst the green mountains and clear waters, engaging in joyful conversations and games.
May our friendship last forever, may our hearts remain true, may our lives be as beautiful as a song, as flowers, as spring, and as summer! Alumni and students, see you again next year!
