Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington (CAAGW)
The Chinese Alumni Associations of Greater Washington (CAAGW), commonly known as “Dazhuanlian,” was established in 1993 by seven alumni associations and officially registered in the United States as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Over the past 30 years, it has grown into a large and influential Chinese community organization with 78 member associations and tens of thousands of members, encompassing alumni associations from nearly all of China’s top-tier “985” and “211” universities.
As one of the most dynamic, largest, and most influential Chinese community organizations in the Washington, D.C. area, CAAGW is dedicated to serving Chinese alumni in the region, uniting the Chinese community, promoting people-to-people friendship between China and the U.S., fostering cultural exchange, and actively helping Chinese Americans integrate into mainstream society. Over the years, CAAGW has made significant contributions to the development of the Greater Washington community and provided valuable experiences and references for Chinese organizations around the world.
CAAGW continually strengthens collaboration between alumni associations and with other community groups by organizing a wide variety of social, cultural, and sports events. Signature events such as the thousand-person BBQ picnic, the Asian American New Year Gala, the “Friendship Cup” sports games, tennis, badminton, pickleball, table tennis, and volleyball tournaments, have become hallmark gatherings for the local Chinese community.
CAAGW is also a hub of talent. It leverages the expertise of its members to host science education lectures and alumni forums, organizes innovation and entrepreneurship competitions, and supports alumni in career development and professional growth.
In addition, CAAGW actively expands its external partnerships and enhances its brand and influence. In recent years, it has encouraged and supported alumni to engage with local and federal agencies and elected officials. It has hosted and co-hosted candidate forums for congressional and regional elections, collaborated with other Asian American communities in social events, and promoted Chinese American participation in American society. Through these efforts, it helps spread Asian culture and plays an increasingly important role in America’s diverse society, particularly in education, technology, and culture.
As CAAGW continues to grow, it remains committed to its mission of serving alumni, uniting the Chinese community, and promoting Chinese culture. It strives to contribute to China-U.S. exchanges and cooperation in science, economy, and culture—establishing itself as an open platform, a collaborative bridge, a hub of innovation, and a friendly ambassador.
